John Marstall to be honored as part of Cardinal Newman Week festivities Feb. 20-26
Wichita businessman and former Newman University Board of Trustees Chairman John Marstall will receive the Cardinal Newman Medal at the university’s annual Cardinal Newman and Alumni Awards Banquet, set this year for 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center on the Newman campus.

For decades, Newman University has set aside a week to honor the life, lessons and ideals of John Henry Cardinal Newman, the university’s namesake. This year, the week will have even more meaning, as it will be the first year the university celebrates Newman since he was declared “Blessed” last September by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Newman University School of Social Work was one of only 100 organizations and individuals that recently received Centennial Medals from Catholic Charities USA. The medals were created by Catholic Charities in celebration of its 100th anniversary, and bestowed upon people or organizations that Catholic Charities identifies as contributing to its mission of reducing poverty. Representatives from Newman University and the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC) will be among the throngs of people expected to attend the Sept. 19 beatification ceremony in Birmingham, England of John Henry Cardinal Newman, the 19th century Catholic theologian and educator for whom Newman University is named.
Agreement between Newman University and Butler Community College offers Butler students admission to Newman, potentially large scholarships
Newman University and Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kan., have created an agreement that will offer a new dual-admissions program to students. This agreement will allow many Butler students with a 2.0 GPA or above to transfer to Newman and earn a $3,000 per year scholarship, which is renewable each academic year so long as the student meets all academic requirements.
