Newman University Steckline Gallery closes season with group art exhibit ‘SHE’ April 29 – May 30

The Steckline Gallery at Newman University will close its 2010-11 season with a group exhibit of artworks called “SHE,” beginning with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29. The show will run through Friday, May 20.

Students, honorary degree recipients to be recognized at Newman University spring and summer graduation ceremonies

Newman University will hold the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement ceremony for spring and summer 2011 graduates on May 13 and May 14, respectively. The university will also honor graduating nursing students on May 13, as well as Occupational Therapy Assistant students on May 15 who have completed coursework and will begin internships.

NU closed Good Friday

The Easter Holiday has arrived! Classes will be suspended and offices will be closed at Newman University Friday, April 22 in observance of Good Friday. Classes and offices will resume normal hours on Monday, April 25. Happy Easter!

Academic Honors and Awards Convocation set for April 20

The 2011 Newman University Academic Honors and Awards Convocation, which salutes achievements of both students and faculty members, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center. The annual event acknowledges superior performances by teachers and student leaders.

Newman University to offer early childhood education degree in Independence

Many Southeast Kansas residents who wish to earn a teaching degree or build on an existing elementary education degree will now have the ability to do so close to home, thanks to a new early childhood unified degree program to be offered by the Newman University Southeast Kansas Teacher Education Program.

Spring Break begins March 21

Newman University classes will close Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25 for Spring Break. Campus offices will close at noon on Friday, March 25 for the break. Classes and offices will resume normal operating hours Monday, March 28.

Career Fair set for March 31

Newman University and Friends University will again partner to present the Spring 2011 “Career Fair on Highway 54” from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center on the Newman campus. The fair is designed to provide an opportunity for students to meet with representatives from a variety of businesses.
