Homecoming Week 2009 wraps up

Homecoming Week 2009 activities wrap up this weekend. On Friday, Nov. 20 alumni basketball games start at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. for the women’s alumni team vs. NU student intramural team and the men’s alumni team vs. NU student intramural, respectively, in the Fugate Gymnasium.

Hack Art Lab’s A Few Small Steps opening reception Friday, Nov. 20

Newman University will be closed on “Final Friday” due to the Thanksgiving break, but will host an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m on Friday, Nov. 20 at the Steckline Gallery for A Few Small Steps, a conceptual-interactive exhibit presented by Hack Art Lab, curated by Kristin Beal-deGrandmont, former NU art adjunct faculty.

Join Newman University as the Department of English presents renowned poet Red Hawk  reading from his works at 7 p.m. tonight in the Jabara Flexible Theatre, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The event is free and open to the public. A book sale and signing will follow.

Education conference, research center dedicated in memory of Susan Reeves, ASC

A standing-room-only crowd attended a reception and dedication ceremony Oct. 26 for the Susan Reeves, ASC Memorial Conference and Research Center in the lower level of McNeill Hall. The center is named for former Associate Professor of Education and Newman alumnae Sister Susan Reeves, Ph.D., who died of cancer July 7, 2007.

Noted author speaks at NU next week

The Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies will present Ron Hansen reading from his book Exiles at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Newman to Dedicate Sr. Susan Reeves Conference Center Monday

The public is invited to a reception and dedication ceremony on Monday, Oct. 26, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in room 40 of McNeill Hall with remarks scheduled between 5:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. University and Diocesan dignitaries will participate in the remarks and blessing of the center.
