Newman University brings back theatre with performances, academic programs
Though all the world’s a stage, the one at Newman University has been less active in recent years than the school has been accustomed to. That will change beginning this fall, however, when the university revives the theatre program with performances, classes and the beginnings of a full academic program.
Bishop Jackels blesses Newman Grotto
Following Mass of the Holy Spirit and Matriculation Service held Thursday, Sept. 1, in St. John’s Chapel, the Most Rev. Michael O. Jackels, Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita, invited those at Mass to join him on the newly remodeled Grotto west of Sacred Heart Hall for a dedication and blessing ceremony.

Welcome back! Newman kicks off 2011-12 school year
Saturday, Aug. 27 marked the first day of the 2011-12 school year for Newman University students, faculty and staff. With moving into their living quarters and attending orientation events, students have been very busy getting settled in to the new year. This fall, more than 470 new faces joined the ranks as a Newman Jet. Welcome!
Fall Alumni Reunion October 6 – 9
The Fall Alumni Reunion will be the fifth anniversary event for Men’s Volleyball alumni. Despite discontinuation of the men’s volleyball program in 2006, team members have faithfully returned each fall for a match-up in Fugate Gymnasium. Matt Biernat ’06 has helped keep the Jets spirit alive among his former teammates now scattered across the United States.
Offices closed for Labor Day
Monday, Sept. 5 marks the Labor Day holiday. Newman classes and offices will be closed all day and will reopen Tuesday, Sept.6.

Newman University grotto restored
If you have been around the west side of Sacred Heart Hall recently you have probably noticed the extensive landscaping underway. The grotto on Newman’s campus, mirroring the “Apparition site” in France, is currently undergoing remodeling to help make it safer and more presentable to the public.

Freshman and transfer students to move into campus housing Friday, Aug. 26

Rad tech graduating class posts 100 percent pass rate on ARRT exam
The May 2011 radiologic technology graduating class had a 100 percent pass rate on the first attempt taking the test for registry given by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Any prospective students still wanting to apply for admission to Newman University are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Returning adults should check out Newman’s CAP Rate programs which are offered at a reduced rate. Classes begin on Saturday, Aug. 27.
