The curtain falls on ‘Hamlet’

Six weeks and five performances later “Hamlet” is finally laid to rest. Newman University Director of Theater Mark Mannette spent the last six weeks directing students in the Shakespeare play “Hamlet.” After all five performances including a shortened matinee, the play had 378 attendees.

Sister JoAnn Mark leaves NU for UN-affiliated international organization

JoAnn Mark, ASC, Ed.D. is leaving Newman University March 20 to become the executive director of Partnership for Global Justice, an international non-government organization (NGO) with special consultative status to the United Nations. The Newman community will honor her with a reception Thursday, March 12 in the Heritage Room.

Newman named 25th in ‘Top 30 Great Small Colleges for a Counseling Degree’

Newman University was listed by Best Psychology Degrees in its March 2015 article about “30 Great Small Colleges for a Counseling Degree (Bachelor’s).” Newman was part of the list that included schools located from Florida to Alaska. The author tabbed Newman as 25th in the nation.

Newman Fund Spring Phonathon raises nearly $10,000 for student scholarships

To date, the Newman Fund Spring Phonathon has raised close to $10,000 to support student scholarships. The Phonathon, which began Feb. 22 and wrapped up on March 5, raised more than $9,500 in the 12 days it ran. Catholic musical artist Luke Spehar entertained Newman students along with students from other area colleges and high schools in a two-hour concert at St. John’s Chapel Wednesday March 4. An audience estimated at 120 attended the final event of the 2015 Heritage Month.

The Newman University Theatre Department will present William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” for three evening performances and one matinee. The show will be performed at 8 p.m. March 5, 6 and 7, and at 2 p.m. on March 8. All performances will be in Performance Hall, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.
