Gerber Institute to present speaker on cyber addiction Nov. 15

The Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies at Newman University will host Kevin Roberts, author and recovering cyber addict, as a guest speaker on cyber addiction in November. The lecture by Roberts will take place at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 15, in the Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman University campus, 3100 McCormick in Wichita. This event is free and open to the public.

The title of the lecture is “Tech Mania: Balance in a Cyber Age.” The lecture will address the use of technology and having a balance with it in our lives. Read More…

Newman hosts Heart of America Men’s Chorus concert June 30 – July 1

The Heart of America Men’s Chorus will present its 10th Anniversary Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 30 and 4 p.m. Sunday, July 1 in the Performance Hall, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The concert, entitled “Reflections,” will feature songs of all styles from past shows. Come enjoy the music by this talented group, which includes faculty members and students from the Newman community.

Students, honorary degree recipients to be recognized at NU spring and summer 2012 graduation ceremonies

Newman University will hold the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement ceremony for spring and summer 2012 graduates on May 11 and May 12, respectively. The university will also honor graduating Nursing students on May 11, as well as Occupational Therapy Assistant students on May 12 who have completed coursework and will begin internships.

Newman University will honor Spring 2012 graduates with ceremonies beginning on May 11. The Nurses Pinning ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on May 11 in Performance Hall, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. Baccalaureate will follow at 7 p.m. in the historic St. John’s Chapel on the Newman campus. Commencement is to be held at 10 a.m. on May 12 at Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple. Read More…

Newman University to present ‘Pippin’ March 8-11

The Newman University Theatre Department will present the musical “Pippin” at 8 p.m. on March 8, 9 and 10, and at 2 p.m. on March 11, in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for seniors, $5 for students (college age and below), and free for Newman students with ID. Tickets will be available at the door 45 minutes before each show. Tickets are also available online.

Newman University invites the community to hear longtime agriculture activist Wes Jackson speak on his new developments and strategies for crop cultivation and progressions at a lecture set for 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 6, in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center. The Center is located on the north side of the Newman University campus, 3100 McCormick in Wichita. The Newman University Theatre Department will host its second play of this school year in early March. The Theatre Department will present the musical “Pippin” on March 8, 9,10 at 8 p.m. and March 11 at 2 p.m. in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The musical “Pippin” is a story about a young prince named Pippin who is on a search for meaning and purpose. Newman University presents film about and lecture by wrongfully convicted Darryl Hunt Feb. 6

The Newman University Criminal Justice Program, with support from the Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies, will present Darryl Hunt hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary about his life, “The Trials of Darryl Hunt,” at 7 p.m., Monday Feb. 6 in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The film documents the personal story of Hunt, who was wrongfully convicted and spent 20 years in prison for a brutal rape and murder that took place in the American South.

Newman University to present debut concert by new wind ensemble Dec. 11

The Newman University Music Department will present the first concert by the new Newman University Wind Ensemble, called “Joy! Festive Music Heralding the Coming of Christmas.” The concert will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in Performance Hall, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. Admission to this one-hour concert is free.
