Two Gerber Institute healthcare reform panels remaining
Two sessions remain in the panel discussions on healthcare reform presented by the Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies and Via Christi Health. The panels are scheduled for Thursday, April 15, and Thursday, April 22. A hot breakfast is provided for the first 30 registrants.
Lit Fest begins Saturday, April 10
The Newman University 11th annual Literary Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11, in the Jabara Flexible Theatre inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The theme for this year’s festival is “E-scapes: The Possibility for Hope in a Post-Literary America.”
Jaime Green named head women’s basketball coach
Newman University Athletics Director Vic Trilli announced the selection of Jaime Green as head women’s basketball coach in a press conference Friday, April 9. The press conference allowed area media outlets and the local Newman community the opportunity to meet Green and learn about her plans for the Newman University women’s basketball program.

Newman University ‘re-enlists’ in Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program
Newman University officials recently signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to participate in the VA’s Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program for the award year Aug. 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011. The agreement marks the second year Newman has elected to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.
Newman University changes mascot from ‘Jets’ to ‘Camels’
Newman University officials announced today that the university’s sports teams will be known, effective immediately, as the “Camels” rather than the “Jets.”
Seven NU students accepted to KU Med School
Seven Newman University seniors will be heading to Kansas City, Kan., next fall to attend the University of Kansas Medical School. The students, who are among only 175 students who will be entering the school, are the latest examples of a long-standing tradition of excellence for the Newman pre-medical program.
