Instrumental Music to host ‘A Concert in the Park’ May 5

The Newman University Instrumental Music Ensembles will present “A Concert in the Park” on May 5 at 2 p.m. The Concert Band, Jazz Band and String Ensemble will perform this “en plein air” concert on the grounds of the University, in front of Heimerman Hall.

Newman to host Catholic High Schools Spring Sports Day May 4

Newman University will host the fifth annual Spring Sports Day between Wichita’s Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Bishop Carroll Catholic High Schools on Saturday, May 4. The annual event allows outstanding student-athletes from the two schools to compete on Newman athletics facilities.

Newman University student Matthew Riedl is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious St. Catherine Medal, which is awarded annually to a sophomore or junior who has demonstrated outstanding service to the university, and has established an excellent record for scholastic achievement. The St. Catherine Medal is the highest student academic award bestowed by Newman University.

Newman University students work to collect 22,000 toothbrushes for Guatemalan children by April 7

Students in the Newman University “Guatemala Study & Serve” program have again launched a campaign to collect new toothbrushes for Guatemalan children. The campaign, called Project SONRISA (Sonrisa means “smile” in Spanish), was created by Sonja Bontrager, assistant professor of Spanish and director of the Guatemala Study & Serve Program at Newman University.

Basketball gets first ever berth to Division II NCAA Tournament

Spring Break begins March 18

Newman University classes will close Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22 for Spring Break. Campus offices will close at noon on Friday, March 22 for the break. Classes and offices will resume normal operating hours Monday, March 25.
